Leo Bonatini hails Wolves team-mates after being named Championship's player of the month
Goal machine Leo Bonatini thanked both his Wolves team-mates and supporters after being named the Championship’s Player of the Month for October.
The 23-year-old today completed an awards double, having bagged the PFA Fans’ prize for his exploits earlier in the week.
Bonatini plundered five goals in four league games over the course of last month as Wolves established themselves as the team to catch in the second tier.
And the Brazilian, who is the Championship’s top scorer with 10 goals, insists it is those team achievements which trump any personal pride, as he dedicated the awards to his team-mates and the club’s supporters.
“I am very happy to be the player chosen for these two awards but I am more happy that we are top of the league,” he said.
“We are doing well, and all my team-mates have really helped me settle in. From the first day I arrived I have been so happy to be here.
“I want to dedicate this award to my team-mates and to the fans as well. Without my team-mates, nothing is possible.”
Bonatini, who is on a season-long loan from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, again reiterated his desire to remain at Molineux beyond the end of the current campaign.
The Belo Horizonte-born star has became the first Wolves player to score in six consecutive games since Micky Holmes in the 1986/87 campaign.
Bonatini said: “I didn’t know it had been so long since a Wolves player scored in that many games in a row.
“I just try and do my best, to help my team-mates and play for them as well.
“If I do that then I feel the goals will come. We need to keep working hard and if we do that we have a better chance of achieving our target at the end of the season.
“The coach has told us it is not difficult to arrive at the top of the table. It is more difficult to keep going and to stay there.
“Every game will be hard but we will carry on trying to be the team at the top.”
He added: “We know what we want. When we play together we can win. My personal goal is to stay here at Wolves and be in the Premier League next season.”
Bonatini saw off competition from Bolton’s Sammy Ameobi, Sunderland’s Lewis Grabban and QPR’s Massimo Luongo to win the Player of the Month prize.
