Neves scored his third Wolves goal – and his first at Molineux – in Tuesday's 3-0 win over Brentford.

That result took Wolves a huge 12 points clear at the top of the Championship.

Neves, while warning that Wolves need to keep working hard to maintain their lead, says there's a confidence in the group that this is Wolves' year.

"We are confident (of promotion) but we don't achieve nothing yet," Neves told the Express & Star. "We have to keep going and do our work well.

"I'm really focused on the Championship."

Neves' goal on Tuesday was a beauty of a 20-yard free kick to follow up on two excellent long range strikes against Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City.

Is he planning on scoring a normal goal anytime soon? "I think it's all about my position – I don't go in the box a lot of times!" Neves joked.

"I have to take the risks and shoot outside and hopefully I can score.

"I'm confident to hit this (free kick). We work during the week (on this).

"My first Molineux goal, I hope I can do more. But the most important thing is the team and a good win for us."

The 20-year-old has put in a string of impressive performances in midfield to live up to his huge £15million price tag.

He's also settled in Wolverhampton with his partner and child.

"It's very good, it's a very calm city which I enjoy a lot with my family. I'm happy here," Neves added.

"I am enjoying it. It's a very good Championship which I enjoy a lot. I hope to help the team to reach our goals.

"It's a really different experience but I enjoy it a lot and I'm focused. I'm happy to help the team and now we're focused on the FA Cup."

And on Tuesday's win over Brentford the former Porto man said: "It was a very tough game for us, Brentford play very good football.

"I think in the second half we were better and I'm happy to help the team to win.

"Brentford is one of the best teams playing football in our league. They have a lot of possession, it's difficult for the other teams to beat them.

"We played good in the second half, were compact in defence and more objective from the front."
