Nuno Espirito Santo’s team face a replay with Carlos Carvalhal’s Swans next week after neither team could break the deadlock at Molineux.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men with Vinagre seeing red after leaving his studs on Nathan Dyer’s leg.

The Portuguese youngster took to Twitter to say he didn’t intend to hurt the Swansea winger.

Vinagre said: “I want to apologise for the game situation today and specify that was not my intention at all to injure Swansea’s player, Nathan Dyer.”

Referee Anthony Taylor also sent off Swansea’s Leroy Fer for a trip on Helder Costa in the second half.

Nuno said that he agreed with decisions for both the red cards.

However, Carvalhal said Fer should have been booked.

“I did not see their red card, but the second one is a classic yellow card,” he said.

“There was no danger of the player going into the area or into a goalscoring situation. It was a tactical foul, it was not really a kick in that moment. To me it is a typical yellow card.”

The Swansea boss said a replay was the last thing his struggling team needed.

“I don’t wish to play more games as we need training, not games,” he added.

“If you ask if I want another game, I would prefer to refocus on the main competition.

“But it is the reality and we will try and go through to the next round.”

Meanwhile, Wolves debutant Rafa Mir said it was great to experience his first Molineux atmosphere.

The 20-year-old came on as a 77th minute substitute and enjoyed a busy cameo.

He said: “I’m very happy just playing today with Wolves and feeling the great atmosphere of the Molineux stadium. Thanks to all the fans and see you in the next match.”

Morgan Gibbs-White made his first appearance of the season and he said it was great to be back involved.

“It felt great playing on that pitch again,” he tweeted. “Unlucky about the result but delighted to get another chance to go there and get a win.”
