Match-worn Wolves shirts go up for auction to raise money for Royal British Legion
Match-worn football shirts emblazoned with poppies that were worn by Wolves players are going under the hammer.
The special shirts were worn by Wolves stars during the team’s 2-0 victory over Fulham on November 3 last year.
A total of 14 shirts, which are also signed by the players, are being auctioned on website CharityStars in aid of the Royal British Legion’s (RBL) Poppy Appeal. They are part of the Sky Bet Poppy Auction.
Wolves won the game thanks to early goals from Romain Saiss and Leo Bonatini – extending their lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table.
The initiative marks continued support by Sky Bet for the RBL, which has raised more than £300,000 over the past four seasons, thanks to fans and English Football League (EFL) clubs.
Impressed
Sky Bet spokesman Sandro Di Michele said: “The RBL’s Poppy Appeal is a cause we’ve worked closely with for nearly four years and we’re always impressed by the swell of support we see from EFL clubs and their fans.
“To be in a position where we can raise a huge amount of money for such a worthwhile cause and pay our respects to those who have served our country is an honour.”
RBL’s Ben France said: “We’re grateful to Sky Bet for supporting the Legion through the shirt auctions and to the football league community who each year dig deep and donate to the Poppy Appeal.
“The Legion’s work is made possible thanks to the public’s generous support and the money raised from the auction will help us provide support to the Armed Forces community wherever it’s needed.”
Football shirts from other Championship clubs will also be sold.
