Robbie Dennison: Wolves in best place to thrive

Wolves are in their best position for more than 30 years to establish themselves in the top flight, a former fan favourite believes.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team are gearing up for Premier League football next season after storming to the Championship title.

With Fosun’s war-chest and the contacts book of super-agent Jorge Mendes to call upon, fans are hopeful of doing something special in the top flight.

And Robbie Dennison, who played in gold and black from 1987 to 1997, thinks these are halcyon days for the club.

The Northern Irishman said: “Talent-wise – and also the financial backing that they club have now – the club are in a better position, probably in the best position they have been in the last 30-to-40 years to really push on and consolidate in the division and possibly push on to better things.

“It is so hard to get into the top six and that sort of stuff but they have got the financial clout to at least get in the top half, mid-table and top half, and then push on from there.

“We can see where things are in two or three years time, four years times maybe.”

Wolves are likely to make big moves in the transfer market this summer, on top of signing loan stars Willy Boly and Diogo Jota for a combined £23million.

Dennison, though, believes Nuno may need more experience in his ranks.

“Well, they are obviously on the way up,” he added. “It is a difficult league to go into and everybody is saying about finishing in the top half and all that sort of thing.

“Until you know exactly what the squad will be, I don’t think you can make predictions like that.

“You have to sort your loan players out, who you are keeping,” Dennison added who you are not keeping and who you are signing.

“So I will tell you better maybe in a couple of months’ time exactly where they stand.

“But this is a hard, hard league they are going into.

“There is very little experience in the team. I don’t want to sound negative about the whole thing but there is very little experience in the side.”
