Wolves boss Nuno proud of constant Conor Coady

Boss Nuno Espirito Santo has shared his pride over Wolves skipper Conor Coady’s amazing feat this past season – playing every minute of every game.

Coady was the only player from the Premier League to see out all his side’s matches in all competitions in the 2018/19 campaign.

The 26-year-old’s transformation from a combative midfielder to Wolves’ defensive rock under Nuno has been remarkable, and the old gold chief said: “It’s fantastic.

“He’s a player that is available for all of the training sessions and all of the games. I’m very proud that he did it.

“It’s the spirit of the team, it could be another player.

“But I think he has shown as a captain that he has led by example, so I’m very proud.”

Coady is now enjoying a well-earned break after playing 46 games – 4,170 minutes.

Many of Wolves’ squad are set for busy summers with their countries though.

Raul Jimenez is due to feature for Mexico in the Gold Cup, Matt Doherty for Ireland in Euro 2020 qualifiers and Ruben Vinagre for Portugal in the Under-20 World Cup.

The Portugal squad for the Nations League finals is set to be announced soon too, and Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves are widely expected to be featured in the squad. Diogo Jota could also be included.

Leander Dendoncker (Belgium), Romain Saiss (Morocco) and Jonny Castro Otto (Spain) might be going away too.

“Everybody will have a rest, but players go to their national teams, and some have their own programmes. It’s an active rest,” said Nuno.

“We start again next season, preparing our future. We want to grow, improve and become better.”

Coady is yet to play for England despite many thinking he is deserving of a call-up.

Asked about a potential Three Lions bow at last week’s Wolves end-of-season awards, he added: “It’s not something I think about too much. If I do, I’ll go stir crazy.

“I love playing for Wolves, so that’s what I’m focused on.”
