Conor Coady does not want 'barmy' VAR drama to overshadow performance at Liverpool

The Wolves skipper saw his men narrowly defeated at the Premier League leaders by a Sadio Mane 42nd minute strike.

That goal was awarded by the video officials and after seeing Pedro Neto's first-half injury time leveller ruled out by VAR for an offside call on Jonny Castro-Otto, Coady wants to remember the performance, rather than the controversy as they bid to bounce back at Watford on Wednesday.

He said: "The problem is, all we are talking about is VAR!

"I have spoken about it all season.

"I thought we were outstanding on Sunday, especially in the second half when we moved with them, played with as much as possible.

"We need to look at that performance second half at a world class club like this and making our mark.

"You look at the two games we have had in terms of Manchester City and Liverpool and I think we have been excellent in both."

Mane's goal was initially chalked off by referee Anthony Taylor as he felt Adam Lallana had handled it into his path.

The video officials ruled that it was his shoulder and awarded the goal.

Replays showed centre-half Virgil van Dijk handled the ball before hoofing the ball to Lallana in the box and Coady was left questioning that decision.

The Wolves skipper was also unhappy to see Neto's strike chalked off due to Jonny's narrow offside call.

He said: "We just have to put up with it and get on with it.

"It is just something were you have to abide by the rules.

"I went in to the ref and he told me Jonny is two millimetres offside.

"I don't know what you make of that but for us, it is just barmy.

"You feel you have scored a great goal, at a place like this where it is hard to score anyway.

"You score a fantastic goal and then it gets chalked off, it is so tough to get over.

"Obviously their goal as well.

"At first we thought it was handball, then it turns out it has hit his shoulder.

"We felt like van Dijk handballed it in the lead up to it but then they try to tell me that his pass never really directly led to the goal...

"Which if you are passing the ball into the box and the ball ends up in the back of the net it has directly led to the goal.

"I cannot get my head round it.

"I went in to see him (the referee) and had a chat about it.

"I understand it is tough for the referees.

"It is hard for them.

"It is hard for the linesman because there are people making decisions somewhere else in the world.

"But I think at the same time, if they had not set a precedent at the start of the season in terms of onside and offside would anyone have batted an eyelid at that decision (to chalk off Neto's goal?)

"I don't think they would have. "It is something we have to put up with, but it is hard to (put up with it)."
