New Wolves man Willian Jose targeting a strong finish
New man Willian Jose wants to fire Wolves back into the top half of the Premier League after completing his loan switch from Real Sociedad.
The 29-year-old striker is set to join up with Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad later this week, after the clubs agreed a deal which gives Wolves the option to buy him permanently for around £22million in the summer.
Jose, who will bolster a Wolves strikeforce still feeling the loss of Raul Jimenez to injury, is currently awaiting a work permit before travelling to the Midlands.
But he insists he is ready to hit the ground running, after outlining his aims for the rest of the campaign.
Jose said: “I think this season we have to finish well, because we are 14th in the table. I hope that we are at least in the top eight so that next season, we can start from scratch and make a great season.
“I’m ready. Of course, I still need a few days to get to know my team-mates and be ready for the games when the coach needs me.”
The added post-Brexit paperwork means it is unlikely Jose will be involved when Wolves travel to Chelsea on Wednesday. His debut is more likely to come at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Jose has been with Sociedad since 2016 and scored 62 times in 170 appearances for the La Liga outfit. He netted both of their goals in a Copa Del Rey win at Cordoba last Wednesday.
He continued: “This is a new adventure, a new challenge. So, I’m very willing, very focused, to be with my companions and to make a very good second half of the Premier League season.
“Wolves is a team that is growing every day, every year. To be noticed by the big clubs in the Premier League, for me, it is an honour. I’m very happy, very keen to be with my team-mates, and hopefully everything will turn out well this year, like we planned.
“What Wolves have been doing for two years now has been very good. I watched several games and that motivated me to be part of this project. I hope to do my best and have a great season.
“For me it’s a dream come true. Every footballer dreams of playing in the Premier League one day. It’s a very competitive league, with many great teams, and every game is important.”
