Wolves boss Nuno believes Nelson Semedo has stepped up
Nuno Espirito Santo feels Nelson Semedo has got to grips with the demands of the Premier League and is now showing his quality for Wolves.
Brought in from Barcelona for an initial £27.5million last summer, the 27-year-old wing-back has impressed recently after struggling early on.
He went close to opening his account in last Friday’s 1-0 win over Leeds, and Nuno insists the Portuguese is now fully aware of what it takes to be successful in what many consider the best league in the world.
“Yes. He found himself (in good positions) and that requires better finishing,” said Nuno, on if Semedo is now fully adapting.
“The Premier League is a tough competition. Every player that joins the Premier League feels the impact and demand of the competition.
“I always say that we play Champions League almost every week, because all the teams are so good.
“For Nelson, it’s been a challenge for him. He’s been committed and done well.
"He knows every game he’s going to play, he’s going to face a tough opponent which will demand better and more from him.”
Nuno feels Wolves are getting more consistent on the whole, too.
They are four unbeaten and have moved up to 11th ahead of Saturday’s long trip to Newcastle.
“We are always trying to chase this consistency. It’s something that is really hard, but I think we’ve been consistent in the way we are approaching the games,” added Nuno.
“We are trying to be focused on all the details of the game. We are doing OK.
“The standards are high and expectations are high, so it requires more responsibility from all of us. We have to keep on working – every day harder.”
