Nuno hails 'amazing' Jonny Castro Otto's comeback from injury

The Spaniard returned at the beginning of February after several months on the sidelines due to a serious knee injury he sustained last summer.

He has consistently started games for Wolves since his return and slowly increased his minutes on the pitch – firstly playing 45 minutes, then 60 and on Saturday completing his first 90 minutes in the draw with Newcastle.

Now, Nuno has hailed his impressive return to the side.

When asked if he has exceeded expectations after such a serious injury, Nuno said: “Yes, definitely.

“The plan was clear, we tried to increase his progression and time on the pitch.

“Against Newcastle he went for all the game and always at a high intensity.

“He did amazing and is doing good but we still have to be aware that he is coming back and needs special attention in terms of recovering.”

Although the 26-year-old is expected to continue in the Wolves starting XI, with Fernando Marcal injured and Rayan Ait-Nouri still developing, Nuno admits Jonny and the rest of the squad will need to be wary of the congested schedule.

“All the players in this schedule (need managing),” Nuno added.

“We are playing (on Tuesday) and arrived from Newcastle at 2am (on Sunday).

“All the players require special attention in this short period.

“With this quick turnaround we have to decide well.”

Meanwhile, Nuno insists he is pleased with the progression of striker Fabio Silva as the teenager is working on the ‘small details’ to improve.

The 18-year-old has played more football than planned this year due to Raul Jimenez’s injury, but he has now not started a game since February 11 with the arrival of Willian Jose.

Against Newcastle the teenager impressed in his 10-minute cameo and almost netted the winner and Nuno believes he now needs to finesse those final details in a Wolves shirt.

“Many of the young players had to be introduced quickly but they did OK,” Nuno added.

“Fabio is progressing. Now he is coming from the bench and having an impact.

“There’s small details missing for him to start really creating of what we expect from him. His final touch, being clinical and his talent in the box.

“Many young players in our squad have had much more minutes than expected.

“Fabio is one of many youngsters that had to play sooner but all of them had had their moments. Some of them have given us good things and we had to deal with the normal situation of mistakes happening.

“Everything comes together for all us in our plan when we are able to stabilise and be more routine-wise and consistent.

“Everything starts making more sense and go how we plan to.”
