Wolves 1 Sheffield United 0 - The Joe Edwards debrief

Wolves have plenty of breathing room after beating Sheffield United – albeit not in convincing fashion.

With six Premier League games to go, Nuno Espirito Santo could throw a bit of caution to the wind as his side sit 12th, on 41 points.

And here, we cover the main talking points from the 1-0 win against the Blades.

Jose strikes

He had gone a long while without scoring – without looking like scoring for several games, too – but Willian Jose's barren run is over.

It was a sharp, instinctive finish from the Brazilian as well.

Getting in between the posts, exactly how you would want any target man to, his first-time flick from Adama Traore's cross left Aaron Ramsdale with no chance.

You could see the huge sense of relief as he wheeled away in celebration, and also after the game once the three points were all wrapped up.

Of course, one goal does not mean Jose will now be snapped up on a permanent basis from Real Sociedad.

The 29-year-old still has improvements to make in the final weeks as his overall play against United was not fantastic.

But he has certainly boosted his standing. After the disappointment of seeing a fine header ruled out at Fulham, he responded in the perfect manner.

And who knows, it might be the start of a late purple patch for him.

Solid Semedo

Jose's first goal, while set up by Traore, would not have happened without a brilliant piece of defending from Nelson Semedo.

Putting his body on the line to get in the way of Enda Stevens' low drive, the former Barcelona man then started off the decisive counter-attack. A vital piece of work.

When Wolves were particularly flat in the first half, too, he was one of the only ones looking to increase the tempo and make things happen on the attack.

It has been a challenging campaign for Semedo, but he seems to have found his feet in recent months.

You get the sense that he may start chipping in with a few more assists, and perhaps a goal, soon.

Hopefully, he can end the season on a positive note and excel throughout next term.

Podence off the pace

Wolves' worst performer on the night was Daniel Podence, who is yet to really shine since coming back from his adductor problem.

He is still working his way back to full fitness and sharpness, which is fair enough.

But with players like Vitinha and Morgan Gibbs-White waiting in the wings and having points to prove, maybe it is worth taking Podence out of the firing line for Burnley.

The playmaker still had one or two moments against the Blades, but he was nowhere near his best.

He was brushed off the ball with ease on too many occasions and guilty of some stray passes, too. One for Nuno to consider.

Other options

This performance against the now-relegated Blades was another fairly underwhelming one and has left fans looking for a little more excitement before the season is all said and done.

Creativity remains a massive issue, and Gibbs-White will be itching for some minutes.

Having had his loan spell at Swansea cut short earlier on in the season, he could very much do with some proper game time – to decide whether he remains in the Wolves fold or heads out again next year.

It will be interesting to see whether Nuno continues to mainly use Fabio Silva off the bench, or perhaps start him alongside Jose.

Theo Corbeanu – a standout of the under-23s – could be handed a senior debut while Max Kilman, who has been an unused sub as of late, will also hope for more chances.

There is a balance to be struck, obviously, but now seems to as good a time as ever to see what these youngsters are made of. The vast majority of supporters would like to see them, too. Why not?
