Liam Keen analysis: Two Wolves turning points resulted in Liverpool defeat
Football is often decided on individual decisions and small turning points.
There were fine margins that determined Wolves’ loss to Liverpool on Saturday and they both came at the same end of the field but in different halves.
To put it simply, Wolves were magnificent in the first half. The defence was dealing with the minimal danger they had with ease.
Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes were winning every ball in midfield. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde looked unstoppable on his debut, Pedro Neto was back to his dangerous best and Hwang Hee-chan was in the right place once again to sweep home and give Wolves a deserved lead.
Wolves were impressive going forward and controlled much of the half as a whole, with the Molineux support reacting in turn.
But heading into half-time, the worry on most people’s minds was whether Wolves would rue an almighty chance.
With around 10 minutes to go in the half, Neto nutmegged Joe Gomez – who was having a torrid afternoon – and lifted in a perfect cross for Matheus Cunha.
