Oswetry's Jones reached the last 32 with a two-hole victory over Huw Williams of Cottrell Park.

The seventh seed was today taking on Adam Wilson of Mold at Royal St David's in Harlech.

Hawkstone Park's Tom Young, who like Jones received a bye through the opening round, lost his first match to Mark Baird 3&2.

Meanwhile, Shropshire interest in the English Amateur Championship at Cumbria is over.

Cleobury Mortimer's Joshua Carpenter, who came through two rounds of strokeplay qualifying, was beaten 6&5 by Enfield's Harry Casey at Silloth yesterday.
