Shropshire golfer Oliver Farr was today hoping to complete a dramatic recovery to keep alive his hopes of breaking onto next year's European Tour.

The 24-year-old, who played his amateur golf at Ludlow, looked to be heading out of qualifying school at the first stage after opening his campaign at Wychwood Park in Cheshire with rounds of 78 and 75.

But Farr hit back yesterday with a three-under-par 69 – notching five birdies after an early double bogey – to rekindle his hopes.

That took him up to a share of 27th place, with the leading 23 at the end of today's final round progressing to stage two of Q-School in Spain in November.

A two-under-par round of 69 left Telford's James Busby in a tie for 33rd place after the opening round of the Allianz Golf Open on the Challenge Tour in Toulouse.

Meanwhile, Llanymynech amateur Garry Huggett enjoyed a successful end to the Seniors Home International at Southerndown.

He notched his first win with a 3&2 foursomes victory with Nigel Evans over Scottish duo Ian Brotherston and Lindsay Blair.

Shropshire & Herefordshire will launch a triple-attack on the Champion of Champions at Woodhall Spa.

Wrekin 14-year-old Will Enefer will represent the two counties in the main event over 36 holes on Sunday. Hawkstone Park's Tom Young will fly the flag in the Boys' event tomorrow while Llanymynech's David Humphreys will play 18 holes on each day in the seniors' event.
