In the tightest of finishes at Ludlow Golf Club, the trio were tied with a gross of 143 after 36 holes.

But Wrekin team skipper Williams was the first to fall out of the three-way play-off after one hole.

Market Drayton's Birch and Herefordshire's Allen then birdied the next hole before Allen, a runner-up in the tournament in 2011, made the decisive putt to par the third while Birch could only three-putt for a bogey.

Last year's youngest ever winner of the competition, Will Enefer, struggled to keep up with the leading pack this time.

The 15-year-old was five shots adrift with two rounds of 74 for a gross 148 which left him trailing with a tied-11th finish.

Shrewsbury's Ian Forbes was fourth with 144, while Ed Tranter of Lilleshall came fifth after shooting 145.

The team event was won by Wrekin with a tally of 437 thanks to top three scorers Williams (143), Jamie Brittain (146) and Enefer (148).

They pipped Shrewsbury by one shot (438) with the Shrews top scorers being Forbes (144), Barry Ruddick (145) and Nicky Evans (149).

Championship organiser Mike Gardner said: "It was a very close-run competition. We had a thrilling finish by way of a play-off between some of the area's best young golfers."
