Shropshire golf ace Ashley Chesters is on course for the cut
Shropshire's reigning European amateur champion, Ashley Chesters, was today aiming to build on a flying start to the English Open Amateur Strokeplay Championships at Seaton Carew.
Chesters, from Hawkstone Park, finished day one of the four-day event in tied eighth place after carding a three-under-par 70 round that included three birdies.
And he will comfortably make the cut for round three, which will see the top 60 players plus ties advance – if he can reproduce that form in today's second round.
Wrekin Park's newly crowned county champion Will Enefer was also on course to make the cut for the final round of the Irish Boys Amateur Open. He was tied 12th after day two in County Tipperary, on one over par.
After today's third round, the top 50 plus ties will advance to Friday's final.
Meanwhile Llanymynech's Basil Griffiths was today competing in the final of the Welsh Open Senior Championships at The Glamorganshire. He made the cut, which included the top 45 plus ties, with a three-over-par second-round 72. He is joint 26th.
