Around 100 golfers will grace the Oswestry club's greens in a bid to land the competition, which has been sponsored by the Shropshire Star for almost three decades.

Four players in each club enter the Stableford points scoring formatted contest, which is set to get underway with a shotgun start on Wednesday (May 24) at 9.20am – with an 8.30am registration time.

The scoring system means the objective is to have the highest score. Zero points are recorded for scores of more than two-over, with two points claimed for par and up to six points for four-under.

Teams of four represent their S&H clubs and the best three scores on each hole will be counted.

The holders, Burghill Valley, will be present to defend their title.

Following the competition's finish, there will be a meal and presentation featuring county president Ernie Wilks and Shropshire Star's advertising sales manager Gavin Cadwallader.

County administrator Martin Fowles said: "From the county's point of view it's a very enjoyable day for all clubs that take part.

"It's always been well represented."
