Rain a pain as Ashley Chesters out to shine
Shropshire golfer Ashley Chesters remains on course for a top ten finish at the Andalucia Valderrama Masters – as the event spilled over on to an extended day.
Players had to wait until today to complete his third and final rounds after play was suspended due to thunderstorms and heavy rain.
Hawkstone Park’s Chesters – who led the event after Friday’s first round is tied for sixth spot with four other players – with leader Sergio Garcia on course for a third title at the event hosted by the Sergio Garcia Foundation.
The defending champion - who also won the event in 2011 - is three strokes clear of nearest challenger Lee Westwood at Real Club Valderrama and will have 11 holes remaining. Chesters is on four-under and has 11 holes of his final round to play.
Home favourite Garcia came into the third round at 10 under par and four shots clear, and after a number of weather delays over the first three days meant that the decision had been taken to reduce the event to 54 holes.
Following a one hour delay on Sunday, the 2017 Masters Tournament birdied the fourth but after missing a par putt,Westwood hit three straight birdies from the second to reduce the lead to three shots.
Former Ludlow pro Oliver Farr is tied 14th on two-under with eight holes to play.
