The Rhino Velo rider posted a superb effort of 21 minutes 21 seconds – nearly two minutes clear of his nearest challenger.

Stuart Proctor repeated the second-placed finish he achieved in the first round despite the Revolutions Racing rider losing 46 seconds after battling through a north-westerly headwind.

Dan Watts took third place but was left rueing a position tweak that felt wrong from the off. Watts fought the bike all the way around the course, eventually crossing the line shaking his head in 23:44 and quietly resolving to faithfully record any position changes in future.

Best placed among the Wrekinsport riders was Mark Griffiths, with the triathlete making it two wins out of two in the Club’s Evening 10 standings, gaining the maximum 12 points thanks to a 24:19 effort,.

Snapping at his heels was Wayne Pryce, crossing the line in 24:38 to take runner-up spot among the Wrekinsport contingent for the second week running.

The road bike category has been popular so far with riders required to use no aerodynamic aids at all to qualify. After a disappointing puncture yards from the start line in round one, Steve Smith bounced back with a fine effort of 26:49 to take the maximum six points on offer in this competition.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Hollie Owens was fastest female, taking 12th spot overall from a field of 26 in 26:08, narrowly pushing out the much-improved Charlotte Chapman by just two seconds.

Round three of the Series takes place at 7pm on Wednesday. HQ is the Woolpack, Shawbirch.
