Debutants impress in comprehensive win for Shropshire
Seven girls made their debuts for Shropshire under-11s when they took on their Gloucestershire rivals – and helped their side to a comprehensive victory.
After being put into bat at Worfield, the girls gelled well to finish their allocation of 30 overs on 149-6 with Worfield pair Frances Callaghan and Grace Seedhouse hitting 27 and 26 respectively and Sentinel’s Eloise Jones top scoring with 29.
In reply, Gloucestershire struggled against a disciplined fielding and bowling display from the Shropshire girls and were dismissed for 69 within 19 overs.
Skipper Amy Griffiths led from the front picking up four wickets for just six runs from her four overs, while Mariella McRae (Market Drayton) finished with 4-11. The other wicket-takers were Worfield’s Phoebe Jones and Esther Hurford from Shifnal.
Coach Mike Griffiths said: “Overall this was a very pleasing all-round performance from a relatively inexperienced team, which bodes well for the future.
“A big thanks to Worfield for hosting the game and to everyone who came along to support the girls.”
