Revolution saw off the Bombers 42-8 on the opening day of the season and will go into the clash full of confidence after chalking up their biggest win of the campaign to date.

They powered to a 62-6 success against Humber Warhawks 62-6 at Oakengates Athletics Stadium on Sunday – a win that keeps them top of the NFC 2 South Division at 5-0 and on track for a post-season play-off spot.

The Revolution were quick out of the gates against a side with only one win to their name in 2017 – a narrow one-point victory over Crewe.

Humber had a game plan from the start and that was to run the ball continuously – frustrating the Revolution defence.

But it was the home side who struck first when Humber fumbled the ball inside their own 10-yard line and defensive end Adam Naylor scooped up to score his second touchdown of the season.

The Revolution added another two touchdowns from Andy Charman and Kris Doody respectively, racing out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Humber continued to run the ball and at times were able to find the gaps outside the Revolution defence, allowing them to secure a number of first downs of their own.

In the second quarter, Shropshire applied more pressure with quarterback Alex Wake finding his favourite target wide receiver Mark Phillips down field for the score.

The Warhawks ended Revolution]s hopes of a shutout win with a touchdown of their own.

Shropshire gave some of the rookies and fringe players game time in the second half with Ben Martin pulling down a spectacular catch for his first touchdown.

It capped a great afternoon for the home side who used the fixture as a charity event to raise money for the Severn Hospice.

Head coach Stephen Tonks said afterwards: “Having not played for a couple of weeks we needed to show that we were still capable of getting the win.

“Yet again all the players dug deep and put in a ruthless performance.”

Wide receivers coach James Tomlinson said: “All the players put in an excellent performance one which they should be proud of.

“Ben Martin is only 18 and is coming off a nasty injury so to get a catch the way he did is credit to him.”

Sunday’s clash against Lincolnshire Bombers, at Oakengates Athletics Stadium, starts at 2.30pm.
