Jon Wright on the pace for top spot

Jon Wright showed his busy schedule will not get in the way of top results this year after leaving rounds six and seven of the NG Road Racing Championship in top spot.

The Shrewsbury star powered to first and second-placed finishes at Cadwell Park on his trusted CBR 600F3 in the Pre-Injection 700 class.

He said: “I was very pleased with the results on the CBR. Overall race pace was good, lap times were consistent and I was pushed hard by the competition. I extended the championship lead so I’m in a strong position for the remaining rounds.”

The 42-year-old also claimed ninth and 13th place in the Open 600 class on his Yamaha R6, to move into 10th in the table.

“The pace quickened on Sunday and I only managed to improve marginally,” said Wright. “Deciding to stick with Saturday’s tyres was a mistake that cost me big time.

“The bike was losing corner exit grip, which makes for a interesting ride but lap times fall away, so I was happy to finish the second race, moving into the top 10 of the championship, so lesson learnt.”

Wright will return to Thundersport action for round five at Mallory Park, June 24-25.

James Evans, 32, from Shrewsbury, also rode in the Open 600 and left the round with a 15th, two 16ths and 17th.

“After missing the test day we were happy with the results, plus I beat my previous best lap time by 4.5 seconds,” he said.

Paul Biddulph, from Little Dawley, is also going very well in the Classic Championships, raced on 350cc bikes, in the over 55 category.

The 66-year-old, who is in action himself this weekend at Cadwell Park, secured first, second and fourth-placed finishes at Mallory Park during round three.

“It was a very lucky fourth as a gear selector fork spring broke while I was leading,” he said. “With the bike stuck in fifth gear it was not easy to ride the but l am leading the championship by about 25 points.”
