Girls do themselves proud on Champions day out
Shifnal Europeans Girls Football Club recently took part in the Football Association of Wales Festival of Football.
The competition was for female grassroots football teams from under-8s to adults, part of the build-up to the UEFA Women’s Champions League final.
Despite the very early start, the girls were buzzing with excitement as they travelled down together by coach. Shifnal’s under-8s,10s and 14s headed to the Welsh capital Cardiff where they played against teams from all over Wales. More than 200 clubs were represented.
The Shifnal girls played some great football and competed very well with other teams in their age groups – with their under-8s and 10s overall finishing the best English teams at the festival in their respective age groups.
After the festival they had a short drive to Cardiff Bay where they had the chance to have a picture taken with the men’s Champions League trophy, meet freestylers and watch the BT sport pundits and legends of the game play on a floating five-a-side pitch. The girls then travelled over to the Cardiff City Stadium where they watched the UEFA women’s Champions League final between Paris Saint Germain and Olympique Lyonaise. The game was a thriller going all the way to penalties – eventually won by Olympique Lyonaise 7-6.
As the only ‘Sister Club’ in Shropshire of WSL team Birmingham City Ladies, Shifnal Europeans have exciting opportunities for new players, coaches and volunteers, boys or girls. Shifnal are also looking for new girl players at under-8s, under-12s and under-14s for the 2017/18 season. All their coaches are FA qualified, CRB checked and first aid trained.
