Shrewsbury teams on a high
Shrewsbury High School are celebrating yet more county success on the athletics track after an outstanding display by two if its teams.
Two girls teams, one junior side consisting of year seven and eight students and an intermediate team featuring year nine and 10 girls, both claimed the respective titles in the County Cup Athletics tournament. For the juniors it was a mammoth eighth consecutive year as champions.
They claimed the top prize by a huge 18 points margin, while the intermediate side won by a total of 10 points.
A highlight of the event was the inter’s relay event, which was won by a 50m distance in an impressive time of 51.15 seconds. Rising stars Dani Hales and Charlotte Gilbody collected the trophies for the Shrewsbury school.
Athletics coach Ceri Anthony praised the performance of the teams, adding: “The relay win was like lightning!
“I am so proud of all the girls, individually and as teams for the performances they put in on the night.
“The conditions were extremely hot but all girls gave their all and were amazing on the night after working hard across the season in their training sessions.”
