Mark Griffiths cranked up the pressure at the top of Wrekinsport CC Evening 10 Series.

Wrekinsport rider Griffiths narrowed the gap between himself and overall leader Wayne Price with a fine win in round nine.

Griffiths looked determined as he negotiated Shawbirch Island, on his way to a victory ahead of a close chasing pack in a time of 23 minutes 30 seconds.

This shaved the Series lead of Pryce, who was the second of the Wrekinsport contingent but sixth overall in 24:01 after a quartet of visiting riders split the red and yellow pair.

Taking the overall runner-up spot on the night was Nova Raider Andy Rose, seven seconds back from Griffiths with a fine effort of 23:37.

He just outpaced Wolverhampton Wheelers’ third-placed Rich Smith by a single second.

And it was another Nova Raider helping himself to fourth place as Andy Maxwell rode his first ever time trial on the newer version of the club course and clocked an impressive effort of 23:43.

Maxwell’s ride pushed out Team Bottrill’s Craig Ball by a further 11 seconds.

In the road bike category – for those with no aero equipment – it was a good win for Series leader Steve Smith despite a hold up at Shawbirch.

Smith stretched his lead at the top of the Road Category standings to seven points with a 25:04 ride.

Fraser MacKinnon, making his first entry into this Series, came home in second place exactly 30 seconds behind Smith.
