Revolution maintained their perfect start to their NFC 2 South Division season by destroying local rivals Staffordshire Surge 53-0 at Longton Rugby Club to make it seven wins from seven.

Having upset Chester Romans the previous week, the Surge had moved into second place in the standings and would have been keen to crank up the pressure on their visitors.

But those plans were blown a part by a ruthless display from Revolution, who are now favourites to win the conference crown.

Revolution applied pressure right from the start and their dominance was rewarded as Andrew Charman and Matt Dudley both crossed for touchdowns.

Mark Phillips also added to the score as the Revolution raced into an early 21-0 first-quarter lead.

The Revolution defence were rampant and increased the score when defensive back Josh Peck intercepted the ball and then ran it back 80-yards for the touchdown.

Staffordshire weren’t able to get the ball moving themselves and could only rely on Revolution penalties to make up any ground on the field.

Wide receiver Chris Smith added another two touchdowns to his season’s tally and with the end of the game in sight defensive captain Alasdair Jarvis scooped up a loose ball to run into the endzone.

Revolution head coach Stephen Tonks was delighted with his side’s display.

He said: “It was a dominant performance and exactly what I was after.

“The team showed no mercy for the opposition and executed their jobs and assignments with precision.

“We were expecting a tough game given the Surge’s recent win over Chester, so nothing was taken for granted. We went out there did our job and got the result.”

The victory leaves the Revolution sitting pretty at the top of the NFC 2 South Division with a 7-0 record and all but secures a place in the end of season play-offs and with the potential of hosting a home play-off game for the first time in their history.

Revolution are next in action on July 16 (2.30pm kick-off) when they host the Chester Romans at Oakengates Athletics Stadium.
