The words of Tom Booth-Amos after racing shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s greatest riders at the British MotoGP. The Newport rider, currently leading the British Motostar championships, secured a wildcard entry for the Silverstone race.

And despite finishing 21st in Sunday’s Moto3 race, he was still able to keep pace with some of the fastest riders and also overcame gearbox issues to leave the track in high spirits.

“I knew they would be quick but I didn’t realise how quick,” he said. “Every rider on-track was fast but I loved every minute of it.

“We were only a second off a top 20 place, which would have been achievable with some adjustments.”

Booth-Amos, along with his Team City Lifting teammate Jake Archer, arrived at Silverstone in buoyant mood to take on the world’s best Moto3 riders in The Octo British Grand Prix.

Determined to put on a show for the British fans on Sunday, Booth-Amos battled through to a brilliant 21st place, posting a lap of 2.13.94 in the process.

He added: “What a weekend at MotoGP. I can’t thank everyone enough for all their help, not just this week but throughout the season.

“Qualifying was terrible but I enjoyed the race. To finish 21st in my first ever Grand Prix and set a lap time as quick as the guys in the top five was amazing.

“I can take the experience away with me and hopefully finish off the British championship in style now.”
