County rivals could face FA enquiry
Shifnal Town and Ellesmere Rangers could face disciplinary action from the Shropshire FA after an alleged mass brawl broke out following their 0-0 draw on Saturday.
The incident is said to have occurred on the pitch after the final whistle and five players – three from Shifnal and two from Ellesmere – were shown red cards.
It was also claimed, during the 90 minutes of play, that there were nine bookings – five Shifnal and four Ellesmere.
The Shropshire FA were awaiting the referee’s report of the West Midlands Premier League game before investigating the matter further.
Also in the Premier Division, joint boss Steve Broome has urged AFC Bridgnorth to keep their heads held high after a 4-0 defeat at unbeaten table-toppers Wolverhampton Sporting.
The result at Pride Park leaves the Crown Meadow side eighth in the table after 10 games – four wins, one draw and five losses.
Despite the big scoreline, Broome, who manages the side alongside Jason Pike, felt the players gave a decent showing and things could have turned out differently had a few big decisions gone their way.
“Sporting have got a side that move the ball well and they have pace,” said Broome.
“And they added Tom Hill from Shifnal Town to their attack over the summer.
“But both Jason and I agree if that is the best the league has to offer, we are not a million miles away.
“At 2-0, there was a clear stamp on Ryan Guryn but their player got away with a booking.
“We then had a clear penalty denied and they got a couple of goals right at the end.”
He added: “It is just small margins for us at the moment, little errors, and that happens when you have young, local players.
“We keep going, regroup and look ahead.”
Wellington Amateurs are still winless.
They suffered a 7-2 trouncing at the hands of Wednesfield at School Grove, leaving them 19 out of 20 teams with two points and a goal difference of minus 30.
In Division One, St Martins enjoyed a 3-0 victory at Willenhall Town – Dave Hartshorn scoring a hat-trick.
The first goal came 15 minutes in after Hartshorn controlled well following an over-the-top ball and slotted home.
He was brought down in the box shortly after, and calmly put the penalty away to make it 2-0.
And early into the second half, Hartshorn tapped in from a few yards out for a well deserved treble.
Wem Town made it two wins in a row, beating Kington Town 1-0.
Telford Juniors drew 1-1 with local rivals Newport Town.
In Division Two, Rock Rovers played out a thrilling 4-4 draw at Gornal Colts. That was their fourth draw from seven league games.
AFC Broseley won 2-1 at Church Stretton while AFC Bridgnorth Development were easily beaten 4-0 by Bilbrook.
In the Midland Premier, Shawbury United are bottom of the table.
They lost 2-0 at Sporting Khalsa, taking their winless run in the league to four games.
Shawbury boss Dave Richards said: “The result was a fair reflection of the game in the end, even though the lads were brilliant.
“William Wells and Ben Cullen went close to opening the scoring and Benji Robinson smashed the bar so we had chances.”
