Openers fire Prestfelde to victory
A fantastic opening partnership helped Prestfelde School get the better of Packwood Haugh to claim the Shropshire Schools Under 12s Bunbury Cup Final trophy.
Steve Aston, who has organised competitions for Shropshire Cricket Board for many years, described the game as the best quality final he could recall in the age group.
Prestfelde batted first in the T20 game, and the brilliant opening partnership of 144 between Will Jenkins (59) and Jack Home (81 not out) saw them put their opponents under pressure from the start at Shrewsbury School.
The stand was finally broken when Jenkins was caught by Hal Cowan off the bowling of Charlie Rutherford, but Prestfelde still pressed on, finishing on 170-2.
In reply, the Packwood batsmen all made useful contributions in the face of some excellent bowling and fielding.
Freddie Timmis hit 45, Rufus Farmer 27 and Wilf Peers 18, while Oliver Parton claimed two wickets for Prestfelde. Wicket-keeper Tom Daly also impressed with two run outs and a stumping as Packwood were restricted to 130-6 in their reply.
Prestfelde will now represent Shropshire in next year’s National Bunbury Cup competition.
