Will Parton’s side were in a strong position when they had the visitors 29-4 replying to Shrewsbury’s 180 all out.

Mike Barnard removed three of the top four and finished with figures of 3-19 from his 10 overs.

But a fifth-wicket stand of 77 between Bruce Thomason (57 not out) and Paul Byrne (40) inched Walsall back into the game and then an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership of 76 between Thomason and Jordan Stynes (51 not out) saw them over the line.

Byrne had earlier claimed 3-30 as all the Shrewsbury batsman struggled apart from Matthew Swift, who made 58.

Seamer Billy Cox did most of the damage with 4-31 as Shrewsbury were dismissed inside 47 overs.

A rapid 76 off 88 balls from Maisam Hasnain saw Newport to a six-wicket victory over Redditch in Division Three.

Hasnain provided the platform for Newport to ease to their target of 197 at Audley Avenue.

The Newport bowlers had earlier shared the wickets around with three each for Mark Downes, Shabbir Khan and Simon Douglas.

Whitchurch continued their strong end to the campaign by thumping Old Elizabethans at Heath Road.

Wicketkeeper Kristen Ali (84) top scored for the home side as they posted 277-7.

And the bowlers played their part too with Sam Ellis (4-51) the star man as the visitors were dismissed for 165.
