The Shropshire rivals served up an 11-goal stunner with Telford finally coming out on top 6-5.

Sharp-shooter Chez Lane was the star of the show for the winners after finding the net four times.

Eight of the goals came in an action-packed first half that ended with Telford leading 5-3.

A frantic start to the match saw Shrewsbury’s Emma Colclough have an effort disallowed before Lane fired Telford & Wrekin in front after receiving a cross from Lorna Burns.

Shrewsbury hit back immediately with a well-worked goal that saw Colclough square the ball across the face of goal for Ruth Dalton to slot home.

A reverse stick shot from Burns gave Telford the lead again and that advantage was further extended when Lane converted a penalty stroke to make it 3-1.

But Shrewsbury rallied again and netted through Dalton as the game continued to swing from end to end.

Burns then turned provider for the home side again when she set up Becky Machin, who rounded the keeper and slotted home.

The goals continued to flow with Shrewsbury hitting back again through Molly Philpott.

But it was Telford and Lane who had the final say in an entertaining half with the in-form goal-grabber completing her hat-trick to make it 5-3.

Shrewsbury came out fired up for the second half and their early pressure was rewarded when a deflected strike from Dalton cut the deficit to one.

With their tails up, Shrewsbury continued to press and their efforts brought an equaliser.

Georgie Hessey broke through the defence and slotted the ball to the penalty spot where Colclough fired home.

Shrewsbury pushed for a winner but were then caught out when Lane received a long ball from midfield and set off towards goal. She was impeded by the Shrewsbury keeper with the referee awarding a penalty flick. And it was Lane who calmly stepped up to net what proved to be the winning goal.

Telford skipper Shirley Hasenauer was delighted to have come out on top and impressed by her side’s ruthlessness in front of goal.

“I’m happy that we were clinical in front of goal, but we lacked our usual composure in defence,” said Hasenauer.

The win left Telford third in the table going into Saturday’s clash away to leaders Olton & West Warwick.

Shrewsbury will aim to bounce back when they host struggling Stone with captain Colclough looking for goals and points.

“It was an encouraging performance against Telford and we have performed consistently well in our opening games but have really found our form going forward over the last two weeks,” she said.

“This will certainly help us to start putting more pressure on opposition.”
