Zoe and Liam are Shropshire’s stars
Zoe GILBODY and Liam Rawlings were the stars of the show during an impressive Shropshire team performance in the annual Dave Sunderland Cross Country Trophy meeting.
Over 50 county school athletes travelled to Winsford in Cheshire to take on eight other counties with Gilbody and Rawlings both tasting success.
Gilbody, from Bridgnorth Endowed School, got Shropshire off to a superb start by winning year seven girls’ race by 18 seconds from Merseyside’s Lara Bellingham with Staffordshire’s Scarlett Williams completing the top three.
And Rawlings capped a fine display by crossing the line first in the final event of the day, the intermediate boys’ race for year 10 and 11 students.
Rawlings, from The Corbet School, Baschurch, cruised home as he finished 27 seconds clear of runner-up Fraser Sproul (Cumbria) with Skip Snelson (Warwickshire) third.
Dan Galloway, from Oldbury Wells School, also impressed to come home fourth in the junior boys’ race.
Izzy Price from William Brookes School was the first Shropshire runner home in the junior girls’ category for Year eight and nine, finishing eighth.
Burton Borough’s Cameron-Ellie Mander went one place better to take seventh in the Intermediate girls’ race.
Despite being up against many larger counties, Shropshire ended the day with a fine fourth-placed finish overall.
