“It was a fantastic evening,” he said.
“It’s great to honour youngsters who have represented their country, that’s the pinnacle in any sport.
“For the population we have in a rural area, we do very well.
“Sport is very strong in Shropshire and that is down to the dedication of the athletes, coaches and school staff that helps create opportunities.
“To reach the standards of an elite performer, which is what our young people are, it takes dedication, commitment and talent. They have all shown this in abundance.
“We are also grateful for the wider support our young people have received, from their families, schools and coaches – many of whom will be volunteers.
“I would also like to thank our sponsors. The International evening wouldn’t happen without their help. We are very grateful for their support.”
