The talented teenagers showed plenty of ability and bags of character to claim the title in a fiercely competitive battle at Hadley Learning Community.

Shrewsbury were placed in a tough group with Moreton Hall, William Brookes, Bridgnorth Endowed and Abraham Darby Academy, with the winners and runners-up progressing to the semi-finals.

Their first game against Moreton Hall saw them recover from conceeding two early scores to run out 11-2 winners.

Shrewsbury tasted defeat in their next outing as they went down 11-6 to a strong William Brookes side. But they dusted themselves off and went on to play some outstanding netball against Bridgnorth Endowed and Abraham Darby Academy to record respective 14-10 and 13-5 wins.

That was enough to clicnh second place in the group and set up a last four clash with Newport Girls High School.

A nail-biting match saw Shrewsbury High go three down before hitting back to win 9-8 with the winning basket arriving in the dying seconds of the game.

That dramatic success earned a final shootout and a chance for revenge against William Brookes.

A nervy start saw Shrewsbury fall four goals behind but once again they dug deep and a stunning second-half display saw them rally to take the game to extra-time.

And there was no stopping them in the added six minutes as they pulled away to triumph 16-13.
