Cycle Club Bridgnorth is now up and pedalling and founder member and chairman Steven Birchall is encouraging people to sign up.

The decision to make the club ‘official’ came after the success of the recently staged Reliability Trial.

The trial challenged cyclists to complete a long-distance course in a given time-limit, and the success encouraged Birchall to launch CCB.

“It started on the January 20, we had 150 riders across Shropshire from several clubs,” said Birchall.

“We had the long-ride which was 53-54 miles, fast-pace riders that travel around 22mph on average, and the slower rides which were 32 miles.

“Overall it was a well-turned out event.

“We started the club last year and officially launched it after the Reliability Trial.”

CCB aims to offer cycling opportunities to people of all ages and levels, and provide the widest variety of cycle and social related activities to the local community.

A gap in the market was one of the main reasons why Birchall decided to launch the cycle club.

“We felt there was a need for this type of club,” he said.

“There were three of us to start with and we sat around a table and had a discussion and decided it was a good idea.

“It covers a range of racing including club rides.”

New members are welcome with Birchall keen to see people take up the sport.

“We have keen and enthusiastic people and it’s a social club to be involved in,” he said. “We have the Sunday club rides which are fun and anyone can join.
