United stand firm to net shootout success
Instones United were put on the spot before clinching their place in the final of the A Rogers Management Shield, writes Dave Sandles.
The Premier Division leaders overcame a stern challenge from Division Two table-toppers Red Barn.
The tie was finally settled 4-3 on penalties in Instones’ favour after the sides had battled out a 1-1 draw.
James Jehu notched for Instones with Rob Johnson on the mark for Red Barn.
Instones now go on to play Snailbeach White Stars in the final on Sunday, April 28.
Charles Darwin and Cruckton Rovers will go head-to-head for glory in the final of the Milward Consolation Cup.
Both sides enjoyed impressive victories in the last four. Darwin beat Premier Team Telegraph 5-0 at Springfield thanks to goals from Charlie Warren (two), Jake Bains, Hayden Peck and Sam Compton.
Matt and Adam Jones, Alex Adams and Kingsley Brown all found the net for Rovers in their 4-1 triumph against Dun Cow. Will Roberts replied.
This final will be played at Nalgo on May 5 (11am).

A 4-1 success away to Bay Hill Beeches leaves them six points clear of Norbury, having played two games fewer and with a superior goal difference, and 14 clear of White Lion, who have five games remaining.

Unison played their last home match after already informing the league that they will not be carrying on next season.

In Division Two, Boars Athletic went goal crazy against Heath Farm Rangers.
Lee Taylor led the way with a four-goal salvo as Boars won 13-1. Ian Smith helped himself to a hat-trick with Yosef Abuari (two), Darren Smith (two), Nat Gregson and Jon Watson completing the scoring.
Tom Freeman bagged a treble as Ellesmere beat high-riding Bocca Seniors 4-1.
Ken Griffiths joined Freeman on the scoresheet while Bobby Winsome struck for Bocca.
There was just one game in Division Three which saw Brockton Rovers beat Crown Abbey Foregate 3-2 at Worthen.
Strikes from Nat Hughes, Luke Williams and Chris White clinched the points for Rovers. Jaydon Taylor grabbed both for the Crown.
Steam Wagon and Coracle Colts drew 2-2 in Division Four. Tom Simmons and Josh Morgan netted for the Wagon with Jon McKee and Jake Felstead hitting back.
