The home side started positively from the opening whistle, placing the Towcester defence under intense pressure.

Georgie Hessey saw an early effort ruled out for an infringement on the goalline as Shrewsbury took charge of proceedings.

But despite applying plenty of pressure, the hosts couldn’t find a breakthrough as the opening half ended goalless.

Shrewsbury’s dominance finally reaped a reward after the break when Eliza Callaghan set up Liz Murfin to open the scoring.

Hessey then stepped up minutes later to convert a penalty corner with a well-struck reverse-stick shot. Goal number three soon followed as Lynsey Cater capped an excellent midfield performance by striding into the attacking circle before wrong-footing the keeper with a disguised strike.

Towcester cut the deficit following a scramble in front of goal but it was the home side who had the final say with Ruth Dalton’s strike making it 4-1.

Telford & Wrekin slipped to a 4-0 defeat at Burton.

A goal from Louise Walker earned Bridgnorth a 1-1 draw with Edgbaston in Midlands Feeder West.
