Worfield’s grand entrance in honour of stalwart Mike
Worfield Cricket Club have paid tribute to former chairman Mike Seedhouse by installing a new set of main entrance gates in his honour.
The gates were fabricated by Mike’s son Iain and will provide a fitting memorial to a man who served the club for over 60 years.
Mike passed away in 2018, aged 72. He took on numerous roles at the Shropshire County League club including player, captain, president and assistant treasurer.
“My father loved the club and was involved, in many roles, for over 60 years so we were trying to think of something the club required that would stand the test of time and be a fitting tribute to him,” said Iain.
Iain’s sister Claire added: “Every pre-season he used to say how the ground looked the best it had ever done and I’m sure this year he would have been thrilled at how wonderful Davenport Park looks and I think the new gates add to that.”
Club chairman David Cook was delighted to see the club stalwart honoured.
“The Seedhouse family are synonymous with Worfield Cricket Club so when Iain came up with the idea of new gates, which were much required, it was a perfect way of recognising Mike’s fantastic contribution over the years,” said Cook.
