Tom Watkins: Telford Tigers are in a must-win situation
Tom Watkins believes Telford Tigers must get something from their double header with Swindon Wildcats this weekend to stand a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Autumn Cup.
The head coach saw his team begin the competition with back-to-back defeats against Peterborough Phantoms.
And now they take on the top of the table Wildcats in Wiltshire today before hosting them tomorrow.
“We started with a loss but most of the other teams on our side of the draw have had a defeat as well,” Watkins said.
“I think if we are going to get through we’ll have to get something out of the weekend.
“It’s going to be a tough couple of games. They are big, they are fast and they are very well organised.
“But we are confident we can break them down.”
Watkins has doubts over a number of players this weekend – with the coach opting to keep tight-lipped on who will be missing.
“There will be one or two missing but I won’t be saying who,” he added.
“I’d rather keep that a mystery, we don’t want to give anything away.”
Watkins added he is hoping to announce soon the date Canadian Doug Clarkson will be joining up with his squad.
