Seriously injured Ludlow player returns to rugby
A rugby player from Shropshire who suffered a serious back injury more three months ago has made a successful comeback.
Ludlow hooker Matt Wilkes fractured two vertebrae in his back during his side's Midlands One West game at Stoke-on-Trent in October.
But he was back on the bench for his team's home game on Saturday.
And he returned to action as a second-half replacement, creating his side's second try albeit in a 31-21 defeat.
His team-mates were delighted to see him return to action at the weekend having made such a speedy recovery.
Wilkes, aged 20, was airlifted to hospital after suffering the injury and he came with inches of being paralysed after fracturing two vertebrae in his back and compressing another.
The former Ludlow College student spent two-and-a-half months in bed recovering but he was given the all-clear to return to the sport earlier this month.
He scored a try in his comeback match for the second team against Bridgnorth prior to his return to first-team action. Wilkes was injured in a ruck match against Stoke.
