Kieron Gray gallantly battles in Birmingham
Telford's Kieron Gray gallantly battled against hometown fighter Andrew Robinson only to suffer a points shut-out at the Institute in Birmingham.
Gray hung in there for the six-round duration but lost each session as he continued to come forward with 'D'Animal,' an aggressive come forward combatant, on Friday night.
'Slammer' dug in the first blow of note of the fight, rocking Robinson to the rib-cage with a weighty right hook early on, only for 'Robbo' to fire back with both of his hands firing to the head.
The second round saw Gray clubbed onto his toes as he was back-footed with a looping left hook, but he stood his ground and surged forward.
Gray protested as a low blow struck him in the third which enraged him enough to go looking for Robinson swinging the right hand, which found its target twice.
Robinson fired back with a right to the body and was hauled into the ropes during the last round, as he ploughed forward looking for the finish.
Gray smiled, bit on his gum-shield and threw leather back to last the distance but there was nothing for him from the man in the middle, John Keane, losing by 60-54 on the referee's scorecard.
