David Pallett reaches third round of UK Open
Newport's David Pallett reached the third round of the PDC UK Open before bowing out to world No 16 Gary Anderson over the weekend.
The Shropshire thrower was beaten 9-5 by 'the Flying Scotsman' on Saturday afternoon, missing out on a last 16 meeting with Ian White.
A frantic Friday for the 24-year-old saw him bypass the preliminary and first rounds completely, coming into battle at the second phase.
The £250,000 tournament, televised on ITV4, brought 138 qualifiers to Butlins in Minehead with Pallett well in the money through his run.
He picked up £3,000 for his exploits, which started on Friday afternoon with a routine 5-2 victory over Garry Spedding away from the main stage.
He was back at the oche that night for a best of 17 legs against Kevin McDine in a see-saw contest, Pallett nudging through by virtue of a 9-8 win.
But Anderson sped away from him during Saturday's first session only to lose 9-7 that night to White, defeated 10-8 by Michael van Gerwen yesterday.
Two-time world champion Adrian Lewis claimed the title last night with a sensational 11-1 victory over Terry Jenkins, dropping just leg in a dominant display.
Pallett's involvement in the competition will be remembered for his nine-dart finish in the third UK Open qualifier last month, during a 6-4 success over Johnny Haines.
Meanwhile, Telford's Ted Hankey reached the last 16 of the singles competition at the BDO's Isle of Man Open over the weekend.
'The Count' picked up 30 ranking points for his exploits, before bowing out at the last 16 stage with a 4-3 defeat to Scott Waites.
