Big Bridgnorth following for RFU regional final

Bridgnorth chairman Peter Parkes today revealed the club's biggest support of the season are likely to be backing the club at Leek.

They are 'two games from Twickenham' and will reach the national semi-final if they win tomorrow's RFU Midlands Intermediate Cup regional decider.

Some 150 fans made the long trip to Leighton Buzzard in the last round, while around the same figure attended the home game against Old Saltleians last weekend.

Excitement appears to be growing and that could get Bridgnorth fans out in their numbers to make the trip to Staffordshire, with a strong home faithful also expected.

Parkes said: "I thought we would see around 150 of our supporters going to Leek, if not more. There's two coachloads, but a lot of people will travel separately.

"When we went to Leighton Buzzard in the last round, we took about that many so there could be a lot more than we expect. It should be a big crowd.

"Our fan base is growing all of the time, for our home league fixtures we are getting an incredible turn out, we had just shy of 150 last weekend.

"We are playing such an exciting brand of rugby that people want to come and watch it, so we need to be ambitious about where want to go.

"We want to finish the campaign without another loss and that would give us a good platform to target for promotion next season.

"We would then be looking to go on another good cup run in this competition next year - as defending champions.

"The lads are up for it, they have a real passion for what they are doing and they really believe they can achieve this."

Buoyant Bridgnorth have won 11 out of their last 12 games for in the Midlands Two West North but face the league leaders, who have beaten them twice.

The show-piece final at the home of English rugby is its own reward but Parkes, who has over 20 years of service to the club, insists the cup comes first.

He said: "It's a massive game for the club and I believe it's the furthest we have got in the competition, the goal now is to physically win the cup.

"We are more thinking about the silverware than going to Twickenham, to be honest, the end result is what are most focussing on.

"We wanted a cup run, we always want to achieve as much as we can and we are very satisfied to have progressed so well.

"The team have strengthened so well during the season but we are very grounded, we have a constant rolling review of what we are achieving."
