A double header for Newport's David Pallett

Newport's David Pallett will have to prevail from a double header if he's to still be in the PDC's UK Open by the evening session.

The Shropshire thrower will enter 'the FA Cup of Darts' in the first round tomorrow afternoon at Butlins in Minehead, in front of the ITV4 cameras.

Pallett will be called onto the eighth of eight boards after the preliminary round tie to decide who will take him on has been decided, writes Craig Birch.

Former PDC world championship Mark Dudbridge or Lloyd Pennel, a wildcard qualifier from an event at Rileys Sports Bar in Lincoln, are second up on board two.

One of those will proceed and then meet Pallett, with the winner returning to toe the oche with Andy Smith on Board Three.

'The Pie Man' will sit out the opening stages, having gleaned enough prize money from the UK Open qualifiers to come in at the second round stage.

Pallett mustered £750 from the four tournaments at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan to enter the last band of qualifiers, with the draw exempting him from the prelims.

He made it through to the third round last year where he lost 9-5 to Gary Anderson, who was on a march that would lead him to his first world title.

All of the first day will operate under first to five legs, before the longer format starts to come in with best of 17 rules in the third round, which will start tomorrow night.
