The Telford-based side, who play in the West Midlands Premier Division, have moved quickly to bring in Welch following the departure of Richard Gardner at the end of the season.

Welsh has left West Mercian League outfit Broseley to take up the role and has recruited former professional footballer Steven Clifford – who has also played for Amateurs – as his No.2.

Wellington Amateurs chairman Dave Gregory said: "As a committee, we decided to take the club in a different direction.

"Lewis and Steven were part of a very successful period for the club and, after a disappointing season, we want to get the club back to where we feel it belongs.

"Lewis has been very successful learning his management trade with Broseley. We feel he has the right credentials to take us forward.

"He is a big name in local football that will attract the right sort of players. Steven is also highly thought of.

"He was a successful pro and has also been very successful plying his trade in non-league. As a club we are very excited about the future."

Welch added: "I'm really excited to be back and I'm grateful to be given the chance to manage at this level."
