Bad weekend for David Pallett in the PDC
Newport's David Pallett won just one game all weekend as he missed the boat for two upcoming PDC European tour dates in Germany.
He competed in four non-televised tournaments, the European qualifiers followed by two Players Championship events, at the K2 Centre in Crawley.
It took Pallett until Sunday to make any money for his efforts, a last leg vanquishing of emerging Dutchman Dirk van Duijvenbode guaranteeing him £250, writes Craig Birch.
He started out trying to qualify for the International Open this June, a close call going against him 6-5 against Michael Barnard in the first round.
Then the rest of Friday's focus was to nab a place at July's European Open, a dream that again ended quickly with a 6-2 loss to the experienced Mark Walsh.
The players returned to the venue on Saturday for the ninth Players Championship of the year, where Pallett got short shrift out of Cristo Reyes in a 6-1 defeat.
The aforementioned 6-5 verdict over van Duijvenbode stopped his weekend becoming a futile exercise, although he went down 6-3 to former BDO world champion Mark Webster next up.
Another Lakeside title winner, Telford's Ted Hankey, competed for ranking points at the BDO Welsh Open, which took place at the Pontins holiday resort in Prestatyn Sands.
'The Count' won three games but could only reach the last 128, where Ryan Gossard put an end to his quest for men's singles glory 3-1.
A whopping 1,024 throwers filled the venue with Hankey previously recording three 3-0 whitewashes over Paul Bellinger, Andy Chambers and Nick Denton.
