Shropshire Revolution after new blood

The Shropshire Revolution are planning a recruitment drive as they closed out a tough 2015 campaign with another defeat.

Revolution went down 62-13 to the Merseyside Nighthawks at Oakengates Leisure Centre to end the season without a victory.

But general manager John Angell was quick to praise his troops for their attitude, during a testing year following the loss of a number of players.

Angell said: "It's been great to see the heart shown throughout this tough season, players going beyond their remit to ensure this team fought in every match.

"I'm so very proud of each and every one of them."

The Nighthawks went into the clash needing a win to seal top spot in the NFC1 Division but were put on the back foot by the Revolution defence early on.

But the Nighthawks finally crossed into the end zone midway through the first quarter, when running back Daishawn Honohan darted over from two yards.

Shropshire hit back as they recovered a clever on-side kick inside Nighthawks territory. And, after a stalled drive, Adam Harris' field goal reduced the deficit to 7-3.

Merseyside found their rhythm in the second quarter and Honohan increased the lead with an exceptional 55-yard run. Ben Kamara and Paul Leighton then both scored to make it 28-3.

Tired legs set in during the second half and the Revolution struggled to force a way back into the game.

Revolution's Adam Naylor produced a moment of brilliance on a kick return, running the ball back 85 yards for one of the touchdowns of the season.

It wasn't enough to stall the Merseyside onslaught, though, and they added another five touchdowns.

Shropshire's other three points came from another Harris field goal midway through the fourth quarter.

The final play of the game saw Revolution quarterback James Tomlinson almost find wide receiver Adam Harris in the end zone.
