And the £5,000 gleaned in prize money from his Austrian adventure has lifted him up to 34th on the Pro Tour Order of Merit and a place to 47th overall.

The 25-year-old is course for a return to the World Championship, after his Alexandra Palace debut against Adrian Lewis last year, and appears to be coming of age.

The Shropshire thrower stole the show and his spirited to the run to the last four could only be halted by the high scoring of Dave Chisnall.

He attempted to turn the tide from 3-1 down, pulling it back to all square before his formidable opponent surged ahead to prevail 6-3, then losing to Michael van Gerwen in the final.

Pallett squeezed past two ties in the last leg earlier that Sunday, showing that never-say-die attitude to come from behind and eventually see off Kim Huybrechts.

Alan Norris went the same way, his opponent fluffing nine separate chances to finish a see-saw contest which was squared at 5-5, after Norris had led 4-3.

Pallett could still afford to miss match darts in three consecutive visits before getting it right, going through to meet Huybrechts on double 16.

Imperious performances on the previous two evenings led him into the final day, both with three-figure averages that would prove a marker.

First went Jamie Caven and then Jelle Klassen, by margins of 6-2 and 6-3 respectively, at the Olympiahalle in Innsbruck as he clicked into gear.

Pallett recorded the most 180s of the tournament, with seven more maximums than his nearest rivals after landing 23 in his five matches.

He's back in action trying to qualify for the ninth European Tour event of the year, plus taking part in two Players Championship competitions, at the Barnsley Metrodome this weekend.
