Another European spot for David Pallett

Newport's David Pallett landing himself a place at the last PDC European Tour event of the year offset a difficult weekend in the Players Championship.

The Shropshire thrower's best work came on day one at the Barnsley Metrodome, in the qualifier for the European Grand Prix next month,

And Pallett will be a part of the field that will play at the Glaspalast in Munich, Germany, from October 16-18 after winning both of his games.

First he dropped just a leg in defeating Lee Palfreyman 6-1, leaving it all on the clash with Andy Boulton, with second round winners guaranteed a spot.

A see-saw clash went Pallett's way 6-5 in the last leg, his first competitive action since reaching the semi-finals of the European Trophy in Austria the previous weekend.

He returned to the venue for two Players Championship tournaments, first tumbling out in the opening round with a 6-3 defeat to Darren Webster.

He finally earned some cash in the last competition, reaching the money stages after beginning with a 6-3 victory over Darren Johnson.

Success by the same margin over Steve Hine set up another meeting with Michael Smith, a repeat of an open darts event in Tipton last month.

He walked away with £1,500 more than his opponent there with an impressive 5-0 whitewash of Smith, who gained his revenge with a 6-4 win. Pallett earned £750 for his run.

That kept him in 47th place on the PDC Order of Merit today, dropping two places to 36th in the Pro Tour standings.
