Shropshire fighters will see finals weekend
Shropshire will definitely have a male and female presence at at finals weekend in the England Junior Championships.
A bye for Donnington's Bradley Thompson will see him sit out tomorrow's national quarter-final ties,
The semi-finals and final will be staged by the Heart of Portsmouth outfit on the South Coast, over two days on the weekend commencing April 2.
But first come the last eight clashes at the Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham, where the hopefuls will again engage in three-round bouts.
The second national tournament on the unpaid calendar for 2016 continues with two divisions separated by age, one encompassing 2000-2001 born entrants and another solely for 2001.
Thompson, with two points victories under his belt in the competition so far, doesn't have an opponent for this stage at 42kg in the 2001 only 'cadet' class.
The quarters take place at the Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham, Lincolnshire, where Raheem Mohammed and Bridie O'Keefe will be looking to get through.
Wellington's Mohammed, representing Merridale in Wolverhampton, will go up against Shepshed's Kian Corssen at 48kg (2001).
He'd already scored a second round stoppage over Anthony Wilson, from O'Dells in Birmingham, going into last Sunday's pre-quarters.
Mohammed then handed Bury's Shamraiz Nadin standing counts in the first and second rounds on his way to a unanimous success, at the Newdigate Social Club in Bedworth.
Three Shropshire girls are still involved in their respective 2000-01 section with O'Keefe, from Salopian in Shrewsbury, almost certain to box a quarter-final tomorrow.
She's walked over to this stage, but now there are eight in the 63kg division. They'll be whittled down after the draw is made on the day.
Telford duo Simran Kaur and Kara Murray, again with Merridale, are already through to finals weekend. Kaur will have five at her weight of 48kg when that comes to pass.
Murray has been handed a great opportunity to claim her first national title. She boxes a straight final at 60kg against the well-schooled Elisha Mannouch, from Swale Gloves in Kent.
